After installing NivoSearch or creating a Search Preset, it’s a good idea to test your search before customers start using it.
A quick search test helps you confirm that your WooCommerce products appear correctly, search results are relevant, and features such as SKU search, typo tolerance, and fuzzy search work as expected.
You don’t need any coding knowledge to test your NivoSearch search bar.
Before You Begin
Make sure:
- NivoSearch is installed and activated.
- WooCommerce is active.
- Your store has at least a few published products.
- A NivoSearch search bar is available on your website.
You can test a search bar added using:
- A default Search Preset
- A custom Search Preset
- The Gutenberg Block
- The NivoSearch shortcode
- Replace Theme Search
Step 1: Open Your Store
Visit the front end of your WooCommerce store.
Find the NivoSearch search bar you want to test.
Click inside the search field and start typing a product name.
Step 2: Test an Exact Product Search
Start by searching for the exact name of a product that you know exists in your store.
For example, if your store sells a product called Bluetooth Headphones, search for:
Bluetooth Headphones
Check that:
- Matching products appear as you type.
- Product images are displayed correctly.
- Product names are correct.
- Prices are displayed correctly.
- Stock status appears correctly if enabled.
- Categories or other enabled information appear correctly.
Click a product result to make sure it opens the correct product page.
Step 3: Test a Partial Search
Next, search using only part of a product name.
For example:
Bluetooth
or:
Headphone
Check that NivoSearch returns relevant products that match your search.
This confirms that customers don’t always need to type the complete product name to find what they’re looking for.
Step 4: Test SKU Search
If SKU Search is enabled in your Search Preset, test it using a product SKU.
For example:
SKU-1001
Check that the correct product appears in the search results.
If you use product variations, also test a variation SKU if Variation SKU Search is enabled.
For example:
VAR-1001-BLUE
The correct parent product should appear in the results
Step 5: Test Typo Tolerance
Make a small spelling mistake in a product name.
For example, if your product is:
Bluetooth
Try searching:
Bleutooth
If the typo matches one of NivoSearch’s built-in typo correction rules, the relevant product should appear.
If you have added a custom typo correction rule, test that correction as well.
Step 6: Test Fuzzy Search
If Fuzzy Search is enabled, try a search with an unusual typo that is not covered by your typo correction rules.
For example, enter a misspelled version of a product name.
NivoSearch uses its search index to find the closest relevant product match when an exact search returns no results.
Check that:
- Relevant products appear.
- The result is close to what you intended to search for.
- A Did You Mean? suggestion appears when applicable.
If you recently added or imported products and fuzzy search cannot find them, rebuild the search index from:
NivoSearch → Settings → Search Accuracy
Then test the search again.
Step 7: Test the Search Results
Check the complete search experience.
Depending on your Search Preset settings, verify that:
- Product images are displayed.
- Product names are correct.
- Prices are correct.
- Sale prices appear correctly.
- SKUs are displayed when enabled.
- Stock status is correct.
- Category information is correct.
- Short descriptions appear when enabled.
- The correct number of results is displayed.
If Add to Cart is enabled, test adding a simple product directly from the search results.
If the Quantity Selector is enabled, select a quantity and confirm that the correct quantity is added to the cart.
Step 8: Test the Search on Mobile
Open your store on a mobile phone or use your browser’s mobile device preview.
Open the NivoSearch search bar and perform a search.
On screens under 768 px wide, NivoSearch automatically uses the mobile full-screen search overlay.
Check that:
- The search field is easy to use.
- Results are easy to read.
- Product results are easy to tap.
- The search overlay opens and closes correctly.
Step 9: Test the Search on Different Pages
If you use NivoSearch in multiple locations, test each search bar.
For example:
- Header
- Homepage
- Product page
- Shop page
- Sidebar
- Footer
If you use different Search Presets, confirm that each search bar behaves according to its own settings.
Step 10: Test Your Search on Different Devices
For the best customer experience, test your search on:
- Desktop
- Tablet
- Mobile
You don’t need to test every device model. Checking the main screen sizes is usually enough to identify layout or usability problems.
What a Successful Search Test Looks Like
Your NivoSearch setup is working correctly when:

If Your Search Is Not Working
If you don’t see the expected results, check the following:
Products are not appearing
Make sure the products you’re testing are published and available in your WooCommerce store.
SKU search is not returning results
Make sure SKU Search is enabled in the Search Preset you’re testing and that you’re using the correct SKU.
For variation products, make sure Variation SKU Search is enabled if you are testing a variation SKU.
Fuzzy Search is not finding a recently added product
Go to:
NivoSearch → Settings → Search Accuracy
Then use the Rebuild Index option and test your search again.
Typo correction is not working
Make sure Typo Tolerance is enabled.
If you’re testing a custom correction, verify that the spelling rule has been added correctly.
The search bar looks different from what you expected
The search bar uses the settings of its assigned Search Preset.
Go to:
NivoSearch → Search Presets
Open the relevant preset and review its settings.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I test NivoSearch?
Open your WooCommerce store, click the NivoSearch search bar, and start typing a product name. Test exact searches, partial searches, SKUs, and typos to confirm that your search works as expected.
How do I know if NivoSearch is working?
If relevant products appear while you type without reloading the page, NivoSearch is working correctly. You can also test additional features such as SKU Search, Typo Tolerance, Fuzzy Search, and Add to Cart if they are enabled.
Do I need to test every product?
No.
You don’t need to test every product individually. Test a representative selection of products, including regular products, products with variations, products with SKUs, and products with common misspellings.
Do I need to rebuild the search index after every product update?
No.
NivoSearch maintains its search index automatically. Rebuild the index when you need to manually refresh it, such as after a large product import or when newly added products are not appearing in Fuzzy Search results.
